Guide to Faringdon & the local area. Discover and enjoy the very best Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds have to offer.
The historic market town of Faringdon was given it's charter in 1218 by King Henry III the weekly market exists to this day.
The Egyptian statue (bottom right) can be seen from the Radcot road, was once in the gardens of Crystal Palace. In 1957 it was bought at auction and placed in the grounds of Faringdon House by Robert Heber-Percy, heir and former partner of Lord Berners. The statue depicts Africa embracing Egypt.
All Saint's Church overlooks the Market Square, its squat tower still missing its steeple, which was destroyed during the Civil War.

Faringdon Markets
A weekly market is held on Tuesdays in the Market Square(8.30am-1.00pm). Each Friday an indoor Country Market takes place in the Corn Exchange.
Faringdon Farmers' Market is held on the first Tuesday, with a Saturday Market on the third weekend of every month.
Saturday markets are often themed, referencing the season or events running if the town.
Charity Market in February.
May sees the Blackbird Day Market, when market goers can sample some blackbird pie.
Young Traders’ Market in July.
Lord Berners’ birthday is marked in September.
Celebration of locally grown apples in October.
Christmas Markets are held at the annual Christmas Light Switch-on with another a few days before Christmas Day.
There are a number of silly signs (or Frivolously Unnecessary Notices (FUN) as some call them), placed on a number of buildings in and around Faringdon Market Place. Over the years some of signs were lost due to being plastered or painted over, but all have now been revealed and restored. It is believed that the twelve signs were originally put up at the instigation of Lord Berners in 1935.
